Two big 3-pointers by Cam Nusser allowed Belle Vernon Area to recover from blowing a 12-point lead with 4:45 left in regulation as the Leopards survived for an 84-80 double-overtime win against Southmoreland at the cfsbank Holiday Classic at Charleroi High School Wednesday.
After Brett Glowacki hit 1 of 2 free throws for the Scotties to force overtime, the Scotties went on to take a three-point lead with eight seconds to go in the extra period.
But Nusser, who was held to four points in regulation, stepped back and nailed a deep 3-pointer with a second remaining to tie the game at 69-69.
In the second overtime, Nusser – who ended with 12 points – hit another trey to put BVA ahead 74-71.
Zach Cernuto hit 1 of 2 free throws and Riley Conforti picked off a Leopards’ pass and converted a layup to tie the game at 74-74 with 1:38 to go.
