Although a water main break near the Port Vue/McKeesport border has been repaired, residents of Port Vue and McKeesport’s Upper 10th Ward remain under a boil water notice until further notice.

The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County issued the precautionary boil order at 2:59 p.m. Tuesday after saying a 6-inch water main that broke before 7 a.m. Tuesday near Romine Avenue in Port Vue possibly allowed microbial contaminants into the water system.

MAWC said repairs were complete around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, adding that the work took so long because crews had trouble getting to the break due to its position on the steep hill. The break caused reduced pressure and low water storage tank levels.

Crews from MAWC were on scene throughout the day Tuesday while McKeesport police directed traffic because River Road was closed between the 15th Street and Jerome Street bridges.
