Monessen police received some unexpected gratitude last week, as a group of sixth-graders stopped by for a visit.

Monessen Middle School English language arts teacher and student council sponsor Stephanie Kirkpatrick accompanied some of her students to the police station around 6:30 a.m. to cook breakfast for the officers as part of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Week.

“I am a huge proponent of philanthropy and I personally feel that we need to bridge the gap between the community, the school and the police department,” Kirkpatrick said. “These gentlemen put their lives on the line to protect our students and the community, and making them breakfast is just a small way to show our appreciation for all that they do.”

The student chefs were Bella Rizzuto, Aaliyah Rice, Abby Rhome, Joshua Walters, Lacey Caterino, Ashlyn Clancy, Kendra Jones, Ava Petruska, Rhianna Grogan and Raven Anderson.
