The havoc wreaked by wind gusts that reached more than 60 mph and swept across the Mon Valley on Sunday lingered throughout the area Monday.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh reported Monday morning that the highest gust of wind recorded in the area on Sunday night reached 61 mph. NWS reported that the wind speed broke records as it was the highest gust the area has seen (not related to a storm) since 1952.

Although Sunday’s heavy winds began to die down early Monday morning, the NWS reported that wind speeds were still reaching 30 mph as of noon Monday.

Despite that, Duquesne Light, West Penn Power, Comcast and Verizon crews were working around the clock to restore power and services to the region.
