Plum Street in Elizabeth Borough will officially become a temporary town square this summer.

Borough council members voted unanimously Tuesday to close the roadway to traffic from June 1 to Aug. 31, ending discussions that began in August when members of the Elizabeth Area Development Corp. approached council about the idea.

The goal is to create a gathering place for the community.

Plum Street has become a popular destination for activities hosted by the EADC, including the annual Blanc en Plum fundraiser dinner and the summer-long concert series, which features musicians every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
