U.S. Postal Service mail carriers have long worked by an unofficial creed: “Neither snow nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
The motto refers to getting your mail delivered to you no matter what the case, but each year, thousands of postal workers across the country including many in the Mon Valley, take their duties beyond the call of the creed by collecting food for those in need via The Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
The initiative, which has been going strong for 27 years, is the largest single-day collection food drive in the United States.
Annual drives that are held in McKeesport and at a City of Pittsburgh branch benefit the Duquesne-based Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
