Dennis Halaszynski Sr., 88, was grinning from ear to ear as he “graduated” from McKeesport Area High School last week.

But it wasn’t a typical graduation.

Halaszynski, a lifelong resident of McKeesport, would have graduated in 1949, but instead of doing so, he elected to join the U.S. Marine Corps.

He said he has a lot of pride in his country and doesn’t regret enlisting. However, he admits his biggest, and possibly only real regret of the past 70 years, is that he didn’t earn a diploma from the school he has “a lot of pride for.”
