Monongahela Senior Center’s Crawford is puzzle ace

Since retiring from the Army in 1976, Sam Crawford has been helping others.

Like clockwork, he travels from his home in Donora to the Monongahela Senior Center five days a week. He arrives when it opens and stays for the day.

Monongahela Senior Center Director Alice Grimes said she doesn’t know what she would do without him.

“He’s my right hand and is very capable of helping here at the center,” she said.

At 87, Crawford isn’t as active as he used to be, but he still inspires others.

“My legs and eyes aren’t as good as they used to be, I still answer the center’s phones and do what I can to help.”
