Belle Vernon Dairy Queen nearly pulled off the upset of the early season in Grebb League girls’ action, but literally fell a minute short.

Thomas Jefferson guard Ashley Guidone hit a leaning, spinning shot in the lane with 16 seconds remaining to give AMD Industries a 44-43 win in the opening game of action Monday at Mechanic Street Playground in California.

AMD (5-0) trailed the entire game, with BVDQ’s lead reaching as high as 10 in the fourth quarter, until Charleroi’s Bella Skobel gathered in a steal and hit a pull-up jumper with 1:06 remaining to give her team its first lead of the game.

AMD outscored BV Dairy Queen, 21-9, in the fourth quarter.
