Ann D. Fisfis – formerly of Monessen

Ann D. Fisfis, 92, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019. She was born in Monessen, daughter of the late Demetrios J. and Anna Kirlakitsis Fisfis. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church of Monessen and the Philoptochos Society. Ann was a graduate of Monessen High School with the Class of 1944. In 1948, she received her B.S. in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1967, she had received her master’s in library science from the University of Pittsburgh. Ann was employed at Kaufman’s from 1948-1949, Penn State University as a psychometrist from 1949-1950, Horne’s as an employment interviewer and job analyst from 1950-1955 and H.B. Maynard as personal director from 1956-1967. She also worked at California University of Pennsylvania as the associate professor-coordinator of public library services at the Mandarino Library from 1968-1986, the time of her retirement. In addition to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church of Monessen, Ann was a member of Beta Phi Mu – Honorary Fraternity, Sigma, Sigma, Sigma – social sorority and faculty advisor to Phi Delta Kappa – Educational Fraternity, California Emeritis Faculty as secretary and member of executive board – and the AAUW as a charter member of the California branch. Surviving are her brother, Nicholas J. Fisfis and wife Kathy; nephew, James and Sukhjit Fisfis; niece, Anne Nicole Fisfis and husband Paul Lukowicz; great-niece and great-nephew, Nicholas and Soria Fisfis; dear friends, Nick S. Fisfis and Irene Cheliotis. Ann was the “Nouna” of her godchildren, Bishop Basil Essey and Shirles “Sissy” King. Also surviving are her adoptive niece and nephew, Kim Kurylo Tarris and Kurt Kurylo. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2019, and from 9 to 10 a.m. the time of services, Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church of Monessen.
