In the Fayette County Baseball League, there is a big reward for the teams that finish in the top two spots in the regular-season standings. Those two teams get the benefit of avoiding a postseason play-in game while teams three through six have to battle it out for a chance to move into the best-of-three semifinals.

Carmichaels has control of the top seed, but the second seed is very much up for grabs between Mill Run and Mitch’s Bail Bonds. On Tuesday, the race between the two teams got a whole lot tighter as Mitch’s posted an 8-2 victory over host Mill Run. With the win, Mitch’s Bail Bonds (12-4) has tied Mill Run (12-4) for second and each team has two games remaining, including a Thursday showdown between the two teams, again at Mill Run.

“The bottom line is that between us and Mill Run, one of us will have to play a one-game playoff,” Mitch’s coach Ryan Encapera said. “We don’t want to end up in that spot.”

Mitch’s Bail Bonds starter Dominic Costellic did his part to ensure his team left Mill Run with a win. Costellic gave up just one hit and one run in four innings of work. He struck out four to get the win.
