As the season nears, Mike Kulish has offered a challenge to his forwards: step up and fill A.J. Meshanko’s shoes.
No, Kulish isn’t expecting anyone to truly replace Meshanko, a star forward who carried Thomas Jefferson’s offense last season with 25 goals. But someone will need to score some goals for the Jaguars this season, and that someone could be anyone, as far as Kulish is concerned.
“We’ve got to find a shooter and a scorer, basically,” Kulish said. “We’re giving all the guys the opportunity. Whoever wants to take charge could have a chance at a starting position if they put their mind to it.”
Kulish called Meshanko the “crux” of the team’s offense last season, and lauded him for the part he played in helping the Jaguars go 16-6-1 and in making it to the WPIAL semifinals and the first round of the PIAA playoffs.
