Monongahela’s 250th Anniversary celebration, which brought in folks from around the world — including Mexico and Italy — in addition to locals, instilled residents and council members with pride in the city.
“It was great to have all these people come home to see our great town,” said Mayor Bob Kepics at the Monongahela Council meeting Wednesday night. “I want to commend everybody who did everything to make it happen.”
Council members and residents took turns praising the city for a successful anniversary celebration, bringing plentiful smiles, laughs and applause to yesterday’s meeting. Several noted that bumps in the road plagued the major multiple-day event that concluded Sunday, but the resounding consensus at the council meeting was that the event was a victory for Monongahela.
“I said that everybody would come together,” said Councilman Ken Kulak, “and they sure did…that was a first-class event, (and) I can’t believe a small town like this could pull it off.”
These celebratory comments did not stamp out discussion of how the town can improve, however. Residents George Eckert and Terry Necciai said at the meeting that Monongahela should have a council of its organizations to simplify communication.
