Fire Chief Robert Whiten Jr., who took over May 1 as Charleroi’s code enforcement officer, has been trying to get the Magic City looking its best and making sure residents are safe in their homes.

During Wednesday’s council meeting, Jody Cheplic applauded Whiten for the work he’s doing — which brought in $3,000 last week — and provided residents with a friendly reminder to be patient.

“Please remember if you call code enforcement and do not see the issue immediately taken care of, (that) does not mean he is not on it,” Cheplic said.

Code enforcement can be a lengthy process.

Whiten attempts to make contact with residents before issuing a violation letter. Once a violation letter is mailed, residents have an allotted amount of time to correct the violation.
