A new resource has officially opened at the Donora Public Library — just in time for Health Literacy Month.

Library Director Mark Boyer said the Donora Consumer Health Information Resource Lab officially opened last week.

The one-of-a-kind area has been in the works for several weeks after the library received $10,000 from the Washington County Community Foundation’s Community CARE Fund in July.

Several Mon Valley libraries benefited from the funding, including Donora, which will use the money to create three separate areas, including a consumer health library.

“An informed community is a healthier community,” Boyer said. “And because October is Health Literacy Month we thought it was a perfect time to raise awareness of how libraries provide trusted health information to their communities.”
