Monongahela council delays zoning decision

Monongahela city council has decided — at least for now — to table any zoning changes to the Monongahela Elementary Center-Dry Run Road corridor.
In June, council discussed changing the residentially- zoned area into a mixed-use zone that would have started at the intersection of Route 136 (Dry Run Road) and Chess Street behind Eat’n Park and would have followed Dry Run Road southwest to the city boundary.
It would have extended east from Dry Run Road to 12th Street and south to Lincoln Street, where the zone would have narrowed and moved back toward Dry Run Road.
City council approved the first reading of Bill No. 2 of 2019 this summer. Last month, the city’s planning commission voted down a measure to recommend that city council move forward with the zoning change.
Wednesday night, some residents of the third ward, who inhabit the area of potential change, asked council what its intention was moving forward.
