Approximately 155 acres of land in Elizabeth Township is slated to be taken into trust as a green space.
It was announced recently that the Allegheny Land Trust has been awarded a $365,300 grant through the Community Conservation Partnership Program. According to state Sen. Jim Brewster, D-McKeesport, the grant is distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
“I fully support efforts to invest money into our communities and to projects that promote environmental protection and recreation,” Brewster said. “I will continue seeking state funding that help preserve open spaces.”
Lindsay Dill, marketing and communications director for the Allegheny Land Trust, said the trust will close on the purchase from the True-Line Corporation in March. The land is in the area of Williamsburg Drive.
“This green space is a classic example of land conservation for us,” Dill said. “It is slowing down rain events from flooding surrounding areas. Even if people aren’t into hiking and birding, they get the added benefit of air and water quality and rain water absorption.”
