State Sen. Jim Brewster, a McKeesport Democrat who represents the 45th District, announced Friday that he is seeking re-election.

Brewster made the announcement before a standing-room-only crowd of supporters in the council chambers in Monroeville.

The 45th District comprises 38 municipalities and stretches from the South Hills and Mon Valley through eastern Allegheny County into portions of the Allegheny Valley and Westmoreland County.

“The district has a large geographic footprint, the communities are diverse, and the people are strong, vibrant and energized, yet there are challenges to overcome,” Brewster said. “We have made progress and have had success, but it is time to build up and out on the strong foundation that’s been established.”

Brewster won a special election in 2010 and was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. He also previously served as mayor of McKeesport and on McKeesport council.
