If there’s a group that knows how to share the joy of Christmas with local children, it’s the Mon Valley Leathernecks.

Despite their tough name, these members of the United States Marine Corps have soft hearts –– especially when it comes to bringing Christmas to hundreds of children in the Valley through the Toys for Tots program.

For 31 years, Wally Fronzaglio has coordinated the Leathernecks’ participation in the Toys for Tots event. He  landed the job as coordinator on the first day he joined the Leathernecks in 1989.

“The very night that I joined, they asked me if I would take over and I said yes,” said Fronzaglio, who lives in Donora.

In those days, the Leathernecks ran their own Christmas toy drive independent of Toys for Tots, but made the switch and signed on with the corporate program in 1992.
