A 16-year-old Washington resident is charged as an adult with attempted homicide in the beating of a Monongahela man with an aluminum baseball bat.

Christopher Urista, 16, of Maple Drive is wanted on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and conspiracy, among others, in connection with the Dec. 7 incident on Thomas Street in Monongahela.

Police were dispatched to the scene just before 2 p.m. after receiving reports of a male who was assaulted with a baseball bat in his home by two males.

According to Monongahela Officer Zlatan Avdic, the male victim, Stephen Whatley, 19, had “severe trauma to the face and head.”

Whatley’s girlfriend, a minor, was also at the home and suffered a bruise on her arm, police said.

Whatley told police he and his girlfriend were in the bedroom sleeping when Urista and a 14-year-old male from Donora entered the room wearing black masks with blue Xs across the eyes — similar to those in the movie “The Purge.”
