State Rep. Austin Davis resigned from his position this week as vice chairman of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee.

Davis, a McKeesport resident, represents the 35th Legislative District. He has served as committee vice chair since former chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills appointed him to the position in 2014.

In his resignation letter, Davis said he is concerned about the direction the party is moving under Chairwoman Eileen Kelly’s headship.

Area Democrats recently criticized Kelly and the committee for not endorsing 34th District incumbent state Rep. Summer Lee of North Braddock and for endorsing 36th Legislative District candidate Heather Kass of Carrick.
