Valley residents will soon have a chance to step back in time — 1834 to be exact — when Rostraver Township’s historic Fells Church opens its doors after a lengthy renovation project that will see the structure have a new ceiling, new flooring and new lighting.

The renovations are part of the Rostraver Historical Society’s efforts to utilize the church as a museum site suitable for tours and historical society meetings.

The renovations are expected to be completed within three weeks.

“We want it to be something beautiful and special for the people,” said Stu Boyd, vice president of the Rostraver Historical Society, which is connected to the church at 800 Fellsburg Road.

The history of the Methodist church dates back to its construction in 1834 with a design similar to Amish barns of Pennsylvania.
