Property owners in North Charleroi Borough will be seeing an increase under the new tax ordinance adopted by council.

The 2020 budget was reopened and a 1.3 mill tax increase was adopted at a budget meeting Feb. 3. The ordinance setting the millage at 6.7505 mills was formally approved Monday.

According to Christine Cardinale, the borough solicitor, the increase is equal to $1.30 for each $1,000 of assessed value. Cardinale said she believes the average assessed home value in the borough is around $40,000.

Cardinale said the increase is needed to cover the debt service on funds the borough intends to borrow to pave streets this year.

“We’ll pave as much as we can,” Cardinale said.
