While ball fields remain closed and other recreational activities will not yet resume in Monongahela, council eagerly awaits the opportunity to reopen the city.
During a meeting Wednesday via conference call, council applauded those working to keep the city safe and in motion during the coronavirus crisis.
They also inquired about where they stand with reopening certain recreation venues in light of a specific order lifting restrictions for golf courses, marinas and campgrounds that begin tomorrow.
On Monday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced golf courses, marinas and some campgrounds will be permitted to open Friday as Pennsylvania officials move toward a gradual reopening of a state economy halted by the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition to private campgrounds, guided fishing trips will be allowed to resume Friday.
All of those businesses must follow life-sustaining business guidelines laid out by the Department of Health.
State park campgrounds will remain closed through at least May 14.
Solicitor Todd Pappasergi said when things begin to reopen, council will have to closely pay attention to restrictions still in place.
“As things continue to open, there will be restrictions on how many people can be at an event and whether things will be classified as life sustaining or critical,” Pappasergi said. “We will have to play that by ear to see how things open up.”
