Starting May 1, North Charleroi residents will not be permitted to leave trash in alleys.

During a virtual meeting Monday, council announced the move, which has been in the works with County Hauling of Belle Vernon for months.

Council also reminds residents that cardboard and bulk items will not be picked up per the company’s policy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement released by County Hauling, the company said because garbage collection is an essential business, pick-ups will continue.

But to keep workers safe, all items including boxes, must be placed in garbage bags.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the coronavirus can stay on cardboard for 24 hours and up to three days on plastic items.
