The community park in Collinsburg is slated for a major renovation this year, with the tennis courts converted to a handicapped-accessible playground and pavilion.
The township commissioners discussed the project Wednesday during their planning meeting, placing the project on the agenda for the business meeting next week.
“We got three great companies to give us quotes. I really think it’s going to be an amazing addition to the community,” said John Lorenzo, chairman of the commissioners.
Tamira M. Spedaliere, the township planner, said each of the three companies presented proposals, including playground equipment for children ages 2-12 that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The lowest quote came from GameTime, which also installed playground equipment at Rostraver’s DiVirgilio Sports Complex and at Round Hill Exhibit Park in nearby Elizabeth Township in Allegheny County. GameTime’s total quoted price, including construction of a pavilion, came to $69,478 with discounts. It includes one large play structure that can accommodate about 25 children and a merry-go-round.
Township manager Jeff Keffer said even if the township does not receive a national grant for which it has applied, there is approximately $65,000 in the township budget which could be put toward the cost of the renovations.
“We call them small parks, but these are decent size parks for the communities that don’t have much,” Lorenzo said.
Lorenzo said the goal is to do something to enhance community parks each year.
