Bill R. Ross – Monessen

Bill R. Ross, 98, of Monessen, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020, in Mon Valley Care Center. A son of the late Clarence Lloyd and Bessie Sanders Ross, he was born in Gibsonton on Jan. 3, 1922, but lived his full life in Monessen. He had been employed by the John L. Gibson Garage in Monessen until he opened his own auto repair shop in 1950 at First and Donner Avenue. Bill was a veteran of World War II, a staff sergeant serving as a radio operator on an E47 Aircraft during the European theater. He was a lifetime member of Monessen Elks Lodge No. 773, over 50 years with American Legion Post No. 28 and VFW Post 1190 and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Monessen. He is survived by a very special friend, Betty Jean Byron and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hrebnar Ross, on Dec. 6, 2000; three sisters, Lois Jean Popovich, Betty Coccari and Elizabeth June Bianchi; two brothers, Samuel L. Ross and David Ross; and a stepmother, Luella Ross. Per Bill’s request, burial will be private in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
