A hearing was held Tuesday for the second of three Sunshine Act lawsuits filed against Monessen Mayor Matt Shorraw.

City resident Ron Mozer filed the suit in January, accusing Shorraw of violating the state law that governs open meetings and requires accountability from agencies to deliberate and take official action in public.

Mozer appeared before Westmoreland County Court of Common Pleas Judge Rita Hathaway Tuesday, along with Shorraw’s attorney, Matt Jaynes. Shorraw did not attend the hearing.

Mozer described the hearing as “less than desirable.”

“The city is playing. (Jaynes) was totally unprepared for the meeting,” Mozer said. “The judge was upset, but after contemplating things, he gave (Jaynes) 30 days to respond to my complaint.”
