Warriors Fast Pitch used a 17-hit effort to topple Washington Township, 8-1, on day one of the Mon Valley Independent Senior Swing softball tournament Tuesday evening at Commodores Field in Perryopolis.
“We were pounding the ball in a couple of practices and we looked pretty good today,” Warriors Fast Pitch coach Harry Rutherford said. “I’m really pleased with our effort.”
Her senior season was wiped out in the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but WFP’s Jordan Pinneri made her presence felt in her return to the field.
The Cal U recruit set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 4 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored.
“I was a little nervous in the beginning, but once I got a hit and once I got on base and was running around, I was OK,” Pinneri said. “I was excited to be back on the field. It means a lot (to be back with the team).”
Pinneri wasn’t the only member of the Warriors to get a hit in all four at-bats as Lauren Vay also turned in a four-hit effort. Vay drove in three runs as did Bri Sersevic, who went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.
Kailey Larcinese and Grace Smith also contributed multi-hit games.
“There is nothing that can describe being off the ball field for three months,” Rutherford said. “It was really nice to get the opportunity to be out there with these girls.”
