Donora Borough Council will send a letter to the Mid-Mon Valley Transit Authority Board in support of a possible new bus stop at Spartan Health Center in Carroll Township.
Fred Berestecky, Donora’s representative on the authority’s board, spoke to council about the need for a stop at the medical center during Thursday’s meeting.
Berestecky said he was approached by someone who told him the closest bus stop to the medical center is at the Mon Valley YMCA off Route 88 and Taylor Run Road in Carroll Township.
Berestecky said he was told a mother had to push a baby in a stroller a half mile on Route 88 from that bus stop to get her child to a doctor at the Spartan facility.
There are a number of things the transit authority has to do before it can install a new bus stop, Berestecky explained. First, it had to make sure the largest bus can go through the area, which worked, he said.
The next step is to pass a survey to see if there is a demand for a bus stop in the area.
Berestecky said they were denied by Patrick Garman, Spartan’s executive administrator and property manager.
“Mr. Garman said they don’t care for a stop to be had there in an email to (authority Executive Director) Ashley Seman,” Berestecky said.
