After a 7-0 trouncing of West Mifflin in the first meeting of the year, Elizabeth Forward only needed one goal to make it a clean sweep with a victory over the Titans Wednesday.
Though the shots on goal weighed heavily in the Warriors favor, the 1-0 win held from early in the game until the end.
“Every one, they either made the save or we just missed or hit the crossbar, and then we couldn’t clear it. Honestly, hats off to those girls, they played an entirely different game than the last time we played them,” EF head coach Brandon Gerba said. “They were faster, stronger, more to the ball, and we just couldn’t get in any kind of rhythm.”
The first good opportunity of the night for the Warriors came at the 33:33 mark.
Junior Natalie Moffa took a pass from the right side at her position on the left and squared a shot on Titans goalkeeper Emily Beck. The rebound came out on the foot of Moffa and she kicked two more shots, both blocked by a Titans defender to keep the contest scoreless.
Elizabeth Forward (6-4, 6-1) broke through with its first goal of the match in the 14th minute after senior Anna Resnik was fouled by Falyn Carr. Senior Natalie Beinlich shot the penalty kick past Beck to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
