Lions across the region are collecting items for families living with the devastation caused by Hurricane Laura nearly two months ago.
Past District 14-E Gov. Robert Mesher said the Lions of Louisiana put out a request for help and Pennsylvania clubs quickly responded.
“When the Lions of Pennsylvania saw the request for help, 18 governors voted to work together to do what we can to raise donations to send to the people struggling down there,” Mesher said.
Donations in the Mon Valley can be dropped off at Clarion Inn in Rostraver Township until Monday.
They will be combined with donations from other clubs next week and shipped to the Lions of Louisiana, where thousands are still recovering after Hurricane Laura crashed ashore early Aug. 27.
The Category 4 storm packed 150-mph winds and a storm surge that Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said was as high as 15 feet.
Edwards called Laura the most powerful hurricane to strike Louisiana, with nearly 6,000 residents still living in hotels and unable to return to their homes. The region is bracing for Hurricane Delta, which is expected to make landfall tonight.
