Collinsburg was the center of attention Friday afternoon when state and Rostraver officials as well as residents and fire department personnel helped celebrate the opening of Phase 1 of Collinsburg Community Park.

The newly developed park, located on Collinsburg Road, includes a full-size regulation basketball court, playground equipment and a pavilion.

Attending the opening were state Rep. Eric Davanzo, R-South Huntingdon, Rostraver Township commissioners John Lorenzo, Gary Beck, Ray Iacoboni and Devin DeRienzo, Township Manager Jeff Keffer, Road Supervisor Tom Godzak, Collinsburg Squad 103 fire department and numerous residents.

“We couldn’t do this without the board,” Lorenzo told the crowd. “We worked together to make this happen. This is your park.”

Lorenzo said development of the park, which used to be the site of abandoned tennis courts, began in January with the help of commissioners and the Rostraver Recreation Board.

“When the COVID hit, it put a damper on things,” he said. “It needed tender love and care. It’s a younger community and nobody was playing tennis.”
