Sometimes it takes time for a high-powered engine to warm up.

Such was the case for Ringgold’s hockey team Monday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Rams got their motor rolling and it was impossible to stop them as they tallied five second-period goals in a 7-2 win over Carrick in PIHL Class B play.

After sitting out the first period, Kenneth Cadwallader scored on his first shift, just 56 seconds into the second stanza on a cross pass from Nathan Boulanger. The goal, which was one of three for Cadwallader, tied the game at 1-1, and from there the rout was on.

“We really came together as a team in the second period,” Rams head coach Rick Kalinowski said. “Our captains were getting on their teammates and next thing you know, we started seeing the passing come together. Then, the shots came and eventually shots will lead to goals.”

Cadwallader then set up Zach Kalinowski on Ringgold’s second goal less than three minutes later. Hunter Suarez found Kobie Kirich whose rebound was again knocked home by Cadwallader as he was falling to the ice, making it 3-1.

Cadwallader completed the hat trick as he stuffed one in coming around the back of the goal. Assists went to Kalinowksi and Phillip “Geno” Quattrone with 2:42 left in the period.

Boulanger roofed a shot short side on Carrick (2-1) goaltender Anthony Perry for a shorthanded marker with just 1:20 left in the period for a 5-1 Rams (4-0) advantage.

“The line with Boulanger, (Zach) Kalinowski and Kenny, when they are together, they work really well,” Kalinowski said. “There’s always one or two assists from one of them. Kenny has great offensive awareness, he’s in the right spots. That is how those goals happen.”
