Over the last two seasons, Elizabeth Forward became accustomed to starting slow when beginning section play.

In 2018-19, the Warriors lost two straight to begin the season before ending the year with a 2-8 section record. Last year, EF again lost two in a row before improving its section mark to 4-6.

It looks as if things may be turning around for third-year head coach Matt Loftis and his young Warriors.

EF moved to 3-0 in Section 3-4A play with a convincing 61-42 victory over visiting Uniontown Friday night.

“We’ve come a long way,” Loftis said. “It seems like the last couple of years we dug ourselves holes early on, so it feels really good to get off to such a good start this year and put ourselves in a position to hopefully compete for a section championship down the road.”

After section wins against Yough last week and Southmoreland this week, Loftis said he is currently leading a “locked-in bunch.”

“It’s a credit to the guys in that room,” Loftis said. “I really like the group that we have this year. If we can continue to keep building on some of the things we’re doing, we are going to be a dangerous team down the road.”
