An abandoned, dilapidated house in Webster will be torn down by Rostraver Township crews as soon as is practical.

The house located in the 900 block of Route 906 South has been empty since the death of the owner, Dale Lanham, about five years ago.

The Rostraver road crew and code enforcement officer recently noticed that the roof of the house has fallen in, putting the structure in danger of collapsing, possibly onto the roadway.

According to solicitor Tim Maatta, the demolition is covered under the township’s dangerous and unsafe structures ordinance, allowing the township to recoup the cost of the demolition from the owner or to lien the property for the cost.

The commissioners approved the demolition at their monthly business meeting Wednesday.
