Most Mon Valley lawmakers think Gov. Tom Wolf has missed the mark with his latest budget proposal.
On Wednesday, in a pre-recorded video, Wolf proposed raising the income taxes for higher earners and a massive boost in aid help to public schools, all while the state faces a gaping deficit and uncertainty over how much more pandemic relief the federal government will send to help struggling businesses and residents.
Most elected officials representing the Mon Valley said the plan won’t make the cut to give residents the help they deserve.
Wolf’s $4 billion income tax proposal and plan to use the money to supercharge public school funding aims to make true to a promise he made during his first few years in office in 2014 when he wanted to raise Pennsylvania’s flat personal income tax rate and shift the burden to higher earners revives.
