Students in the South Allegheny School District will soon have a bus transportation service.

At a special meeting Thursday night, school directors unanimously awarded student transportation services to Coraopolis-based Student Transportation of America.

Terms of the agreement are contingent upon negotiation between the district and STA, as well as the approval of district solicitor Falco Muscante.

The move comes after the district was involved in a legal battle with previous transportation provider, Sun Coach Lines LLC, that has left students without bus transportation since January.

“I am excited for this new partnership with the district and STA,” Superintendent Dr. Lisa Duval said. “We have heard very good things from close districts that are currently working with STA. We’re looking forward to services that are going to be what’s best for our kids.

“Although we can’t provide a definitive timeline for when that’s going to happen, I can tell you that we are now going to begin to work with STA so they can begin to bring on new employees and get them ready to go.”
