Harry G. Scales, 82, of Bentleyville, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, in his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Monessen, son of the late Donald Scales and Golda Newhouse and stepfather, Eino Suomela. Mr. Scales was a 1956 graduate of Monessen High School. From 1956 to 1959, he honorably served our country with the U.S. Army. Harry was employed as a customer service technician for Peoples Natural Gas Co., working out of the New Eagle facility. He was a member of the 666 Operators Union. Mr. Scales retired after 26 years of service. Mr. Scales was a member of the Gas Co. Club of the Peoples Gas retirees. He attended First Christian Church of Monessen and later attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Coal Center. Harry was known for always being ready to help others. He was well versed in carpentry and was able to repair anything. He was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed riding his Harley more than anything. His collection of motorcycles, cars and tractors was quite extensive. Harry also enjoyed country music, especially country gospel. On Feb. 14, 1975, he married Joanne Pappert, who survives. They celebrated 46 years of marriage. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Jeffrey Scales (Christina) of Long Branch, Beth Brovey (Jim) of Bentleyville and Rebecca Salisbury (William E. Jr.) of Bentleyville; two brothers, Rodney Scales of Monessen and Marvin Scales of the state of Indiana; eight grandchildren, Alexander Scales, Elizabeth Brokenshire (Andrew), Victoria Scales, Grace Scales, Emilee Brovey, Nathan Brovey, Elijah Salisbury and Madison Salisbury; and one great-grandson, Knox Scales. Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister, Patricia Sanders. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at GREENLEE’S BENTLEYVILLE FUNERAL HOME, 619 Main St., Bentleyville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2021, with Pastor Jeffrey Marton officiating.
