In Washington County, there aren’t many contested primary races at the local level, but there will be a few races in November.

There are also a number of races that either aren’t contested at all or don’t have enough candidates running for the seats available.

Washington County Controller Mike Namie has not filed to run for re-election. The race is contested in the primary and the general election. Democrats Ben Bright of Smith Township and Randy Barli of Coal Center will square off this month, along with Republicans H. Carl Brandtonies of South Strabane Township and April Sloane of North Strabane Township.

Washington County Court of Common Pleas Judge Gary Gilman’s term expires this year and he has not filed to run for re-election. Running for his spot are Joyce Hatfield-Wise of Amwell Township and Jesse Pettit of Peters Township. Both candidates have crossfiled, so the race could either be decided this month or continue on until November.
