Fourth-grade students in the Belle Vernon Area School District participated in a poster contest sponsored by the Rostraver Township Commissioners to address water pollution.
The students were asked to draw posters showing simple things people can do in their daily lives to limit water pollution. The contest was part of the township’s community outreach and education program as a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) community.
“Obviously community outreach is important,” said Rostraver Commissioners’ President John Lorenzo. “This is the first year we had a prize attached to it, and the kids did an outstanding job.”
The winning poster makers received gift cards to area stores. First place went to Jocelyn Cramer with her poster, “See beauty in each drop!”
Lucy Eisengart placed second with “We are saving the Earth!” Third place went to Noah Spedaliere for his poster, “It’s the water you drink!” Honorable recognition went to Jordan Jerome and Lilah Steeber.
“You could see when they put their pieces together they see how important it is to stay in touch with the environment and take care of it,” Lorenzo said.
