Joe Manning is ready to help Charleroi Borough move forward.
On Wednesday, by a 5-1 vote, council approved his contract as the new borough manager.
Councilman Frank Pattera, who has consistently opposed the position, cast the lone no vote.
Councilwoman Jeannine Motycki was absent.
Council approved hiring Manning last week, despite questioning from candidates seeking council seats in November.
Manning accepted the position, at a salary of $60,000, and will transition into the role this month.
Manning, who comes with a plethora of experience in local government, has fulfilled a months-long search for the right position to fill the job.
Charleroi Borough has been without a borough a manager since 2014.
Council started discussing hiring a new borough manager in December to adhere to recommendations by a report through the Strategic Management Planning Program and an auditor.
Formerly known as the Early Intervention Program, the Strategic Management Planning Program helps communities develop comprehensive, multi-year financial plans and establish short- and long-term financial objectives.
Charleroi entered into the program in 2018. After completing it, council developed a comprehensive plan that includes the creation of a borough manager position.
Council received applications from throughout the state, and outside of the country, all of which were submitted to the DCED.
Manning was selected for the position, and will help the borough to apply for grants, build connections within the region and also alleviate duties of the current borough administrator who has doubled her workload.
