The body of a Monessen man was found in a storm drain Thursday morning, according to his family.
Relatives of Kevin Davis, 60, told WTAE-TV that he was on a walk overnight when he fell into the drain on Rebecca Street.
The family said a bus driver passing through the area spotted Davis’ body in the drain.
WTAE-TV reported that Davis’ family said they have raised concerns with the City of Monessen for more than a year about the way the drainage area was eroding.
Monessen police declined to comment on the investigation. Monessen and Charleroi firefighters were also on scene.
Mayor Matt Shorraw also said he can’t offer comment on the investigation because Monessen police are still looking into the circumstances surrounding Davis’ death.
He also couldn’t comment on the cause of death.
The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office hadn’t released a report as of presstime.
Shorraw offered his sympathies to the family and said the situation “is just really sad.”
The mayor did offer commentary on the apparently damaged storm drain, saying he’s hoping it can be repaired by today or within the next few days.
“It should have been fixed,” he said. “It will be fixed this week. Unfortunately, that’s too late for Mr. Davis, but it will be fixed this week.”
