The Elizabeth Township comprehensive plan is entering the public comment phase prior to final adoption by the commissioners, which is anticipated in October.

Carolyn Yagle and AJ Schwartz of Environmental Planning and Design presented information about the plan at Monday’s commissioners’ meeting.

Yagle said that over the past year the township has held five live virtual sessions with 150 active participants  discussing what is important to residents of the township over the next 10 to 15 years. There were also 600 participants in public surveys on the subject and 15 steering committee meetings.

During those input sessions, several themes rose to the top: preservation of open spaces, connecting and enhancing parks and recreation amenities in the township, balancing development and conservation and celebrating and promoting the township’s history, Yagle said.

“We’re ready to have a public review of the draft to come forward for the public review period,” she said.

Yagle said there are 24 action items outlined in the draft plan related to six topics:

• Protect and conserve open spaces.

• Look to the river.

• Enhance civic amenities.

• Broaden housing options.

• Activating development/redevelopment opportunities.

• Spreading the word.
