Local firefighters travel to Kentucky to aid tornado victims

South Brownsville firefighters collected supplies and drove to Kentucky to deliver them to tornado victims.

When South Brownsville Fire Chief Ron Barry saw the news reports of the devastation from tornadoes in Kentucky, he reached out to his fellow firefighters to see how they could help. “My students and I did something similar when tornadoes hit Oklahoma in 2012,” said Barry, who is an emergency services instructor at the Connellsville Area Career and Technical Center. Barry contacted fellow firefighter Lew Hosler and asked if he was up for a road trip and plans began for a supply drive with the idea of delivering the materials to a fire department in the affected area so it would be properly distributed.
