Walter Kraynek – Monessen

Walter Kraynek, 99, passed away peacefully at his Monessen home on Nov. 30, 2021. Born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1921, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary Micknivich Kraynek. Walter was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen. Walter served his country in the U.S. Army, 680th Ordnance, Seventh Army in World War II. He had served four years in the European Theatre and the Mediterranean/ African Theatre and was honorably discharged in 1945. Walter retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel after 43 years. He had been a co-owner of the Chateau Lounge of Monessen in the 50s and 60s. He also worked alongside his brothers in the construction business and excelled at finish carpentry work. In his leisure time, Walter enjoyed bowling, a good round of golf and traveling with his wife of 68 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Selcan Kraynek; a son-in-law, Stephen Tybursky; five brothers, Sam, John, Bill, Steve and Nick Kraynek; as well as three sisters, Eunice Starinsky, Olga Durant and Anne Shimborske. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Kraynek Tybursky; his son, Walter Dennis Kraynek and Nancy Shusta; grandson, Benjamin Tybursky and Jennie Stillman; a great-granddaughter, Fiona Tybursky; as well as numerous loving and supporting nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen, with services beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Stabe officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum of Monessen. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen, or the charity of one’s choice.
