“Once Upon a time,” as many fairy tales begin, there was, indeed, such a thing as penny candy. The big difference in my story and the one of Goldilocks and the three bears, is that this story is not a fable but is the truth and nothing but the truth! Yes, Tootsie Rolls, BB bats, Root Beer Barrels and licorice sticks could be purchased at your local convenience store for one copper penny.
