The Belle Vernon Area softball team inched closer to a playoff berth, and got a leg up in securing at least the No. 3 spot in the section Wednesday, outslugging visiting West Mifflin, 12-8, at Tom Rodriguez Field in Washington Township.
After struggling the last two games, Leopards center fielder Maren Metikosh started raking again against the Titans. The junior finished 3 for 3 with a single, triple and three-run homer with five RBIs.
