Matthew W. Sweeney, 88, of Rostraver Township, died Friday, April 8, 2022. Born in Rostraver Township on May 7, 1933, he was the son of the late John F. and Anna A. Accipiter Sweeney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew W. Sweeney Jr.; and brothers, Patrick J. Sweeney and George R. Sweeney. Matt was one of the owners of the Rostraver Shopping Center, located in Rostraver Township. He was Catholic by faith. Matt honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen McCune Sweeney; daughter, Patricia Sweeney; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Sweeney; grandsons, Matthew W. Sweeney III (fiancée, Lily Gharib) and Zachary T. Sweeney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at JAMES C.
