Ted Gregor (1942-2021), attorney and former resident of Fallowfield Township, Washington County, passed away at home on Dec. 15, 2021, in Carlsbad, Calif. He was 79 years old. Ted started his life in Van Voorhis, then later moved to Fallowfield Township. After leaving Fallowfield Township Junior High, where he was coached by John “Shell” Shelapinsky, as were so many others, including but not limited to future players of the Charleroi championship football team of 1960, he attended what was then Monongahela High School. Upon distinguishing himself as a student and athlete, he was selected to appear in the Big 33 football game in Hershey, and thereafter awarded a full football scholarship to Penn State University in 1960, under then head coach Rip Engle. He appeared in each of the two Gator Bowl games Penn State was invited to attend during that period. He obtained his master’s degree from West Virginia University and was thereafter employed by U.S. Steel Corporation in McKeesport and attended Duquesne Law School at night. Upon passing the bar, he relocated to Stroudsburg, Pa., where he joined Ed and Todd Williams to form the law firm of Williams, Williams and Gregor. His brother Jim joined the firm in 1977, and they later practiced together until Ted and his family left the area for California in 1984. Ted was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing. His fondest memories were fishing the Delaware River as well as excursions to Canada and Nantucket with his friends and colleagues. He loved growing up in the Mon Valley in the ’50s and ’60s, always reminisced about the community focus on sports teams, athletes and how the world seemed to coalesce around the Friday night football game. All the towns in the Valley were flourishing then and it was a positive and nourishing area and era in which to grow up. Ted was a kind soul who relished the company of family and friends and always made sure anyone he encountered felt comfortable and welcome. Living in California, he had occasion to meet with fellow Van Voorhis native, friend and former NFL football player Myron Pottios. Ted and Myron’s brother, Mickey Bitsko, grew up together in Van Voorhis and they later played on opposing football teams in high school. Ted and his family were always especially delighted by the random and unexpected visits from his high school teammate and former Pitt football captain Ray Popp. He is survived by his wife, Sue; his son, Steve; and daughter, Lea; younger sisters, Diane, Donna and Dana; brother, Jim; two granddaughters, Alicia and Daniela; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
